Description

This PDF, Characterization of the U.S. Industrial/Commercial Boiler Population, is a 2005 report prepared for Oak Ridge National Laboratory that analyzes the size, makeup, energy use, fuel types, applications, geographic distribution, and age of boilers operating in U.S. industrial and commercial facilities. The study estimated roughly 163,000 boilers nationwide, with industrial boilers generally being much larger and more energy-intensive than commercial units. It examines major boiler-using industries—including food, paper, chemicals, refining, and primary metals—and compares firetube, watertube, stoker, pulverized-coal, and fluidized-bed boiler technologies. The report also analyzes natural gas and other boiler fuels, historical boiler sales, combined heat and power (CHP) systems, and the aging U.S. boiler population, making it primarily a market and industry research report rather than an operating or engineering manual.
